Elevator bits are a training device, NOT a gimmick. They have only a 1 to 1 leverage---exactly the same pull as a ring snaffle. However, there is a sequence of pre-signals to give your horse warning that he should respond. Afterwards, there is a curb chain to remind him that he should have responded.

Les Vogt calls the elevator bit, “the most useful tool in his tack room.” It offers the most shoulder control of any bit and has a lot of “magic.” If you want to drop the neck to round your horse and collect him, lower the bit a notch of two. If you adjust a notch or two up, you can help him break higher at the poll raising shoulders and better hindquarter weight distribution.

The elevator is commonly used in conjunction with a running martingale for best results. CAUTION: be sure that you have “life saver” washers on your reins to prevent martingale hang up on the lower bit loops.

Try it! You’ll love it----everyone else does.
